Tecnology

The use of tecnology first came into play when doing my first photoshoot, with the camera used. for my original shoot I used a Fuji film camera and the pictures that came out were notably better than if the shoot would have been done with a less expensive camera. However, even lthough working with the camera gave me the skills in what to do with it in terms of position and lighting and landscaping or portraiting, I wanted a camera with a better zoom and better capabilities. I, therefore, changed to a Canon 60D. I took advantage of the better quality camera which meant in the editing process the images could be cropped and zoomed whilst still keeping their quality due to the Canons high resolution.

In terms of editing software, I used Photoshop for the maority. Photosho offers a wide range of tools. as well asthe usual ones such as brightness, layers, contours, white balance and filters, Photoshop has a blemish or spot remover tool. This toold was perfect for blurring out spots, however it could also be used to remove redness of the skin, unwanted hair and make the model seem as if they have no flaws, as if the tool was a layer of make up. The use of this gave me the skills that would be used in the proffesional world. This all made the front cover model look more 'prefect' making the magazine look more proffesional.

Another tool i used regularly on Photoshop was The quick select and lasso tool. The lasso tool allows you to circle and select a certain small secton of an image to edit (the quick select tool works similarly but is more precise and works to detect different colours in the image). For example, in my front cover, i used the Quick select tool to select only the model and not the background. I then used the colour tool to turn up the green and blue coloursto  make the model more cyan and i also turn the white balance slightly up to make the model almost look slightly ill, which fits with the indie style.

Another application used was InDesign. InDesign was used for my double page spread. Through this application I learnt a lot about the processes needed in constructing the layout, such as the need for collumns and where they should be. I also learnt about the size of text needed and how to think bout what size the text would be when printed out. I believe the biggest thing I lernt from InDesign was how to arrange the text with the collumns tool and movement tools to make them look like a proffesional magazine, and also make them appropriot for printing.

I have also used other programmes in the research, planning and evaluating part of this project, including:

  - Emaze

  - Prezi

  - Video tools

  - Youtube

If there was one problem that i faced, it was from my first shoot where i shot on green screen and thought the editing process for deleting this background and putting another in would be stupid - i was wrong. Althought the quick select got rid of the green easily, it was very hard to get rid of the green around the hair and i spent quite some time trying to fix it, only for it to turn out looking very fake. I also tried simply changing th colour but, again, it did not look proffessional. I learnt from this and shot again with a better camera and a white background and indie patterned floor.

What i have learned in terms of technology from this process is that, in recent years, tecnology has become so fast and advanced, that people with the right tecnology could have only a few weeks experience and still make a proffesional product. Due to more and more technology becoming available it is also becoming cheaper and easier to use. If i had not had this technology, and had older technology, I am certain this will have taken much longer and would not have been able to accomodate for my technological needs.
