Pre-lim First Blog

For our pre-lim task we had the brief of creating a college magazine for Farnham. I started by first taking a picture of the model, which in this case was Kaya, in a setting which i thought both appropriot for a school magazine and one that, if i were to see the image on the front of a school magazine, I would pick up the mag and start reading.

First of all I changed the white balance and used the darken tool to make the image look more proffesional and less like an amature photo. I decided on a textual colour scheme of red and white. I began by using a bright red as the title, but later felt it was too overwhelming and made the magazine look less sophisticated and more childlike and simple. I then went for a darker red and only used white on the cover titles so make the magazine look more proper and attractive to the reader. I felt as if, as this is a college magazine for college student, I wanted the magazine to be respectful. As a college student myself I felt that, if I were to read a magazine, i would not want it to be patronising, so used more muted colours to give a more mature theme.

I inserted a barcode image and used the move tool to put it into place. I then used the resize tool to make it the size of a normal barcode on a magazine (I used cmd and shift to keep the aspect of the image the same).
